This Day In Music 30.04.2016
Chris Henderson was born on April 30 in 1971, in Escatawpa, Mississippi, USA. He joined 3 Doors Down in 1997. The band originally consisted of Brad Arnold, vocals and drums, Todd Harrell on bass and Matt Roberts on guitar.
A couple of years after performing together, Todd Harrell asked guitarist Chris Henderson to join the band. They recorded a demo CD of their original songs at Lincoln Recording in Pascagoula, Mississippi. When the band gave the CD to local radio station WCPR-FM, they started playing the EP version of Kryptonite and it became the No. 1 requested song on the station for over 15 weeks. 3 Doors Down's success on the radio led to Republic Records signing the band. Kryptonite charted in the top three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Their debut album, The Better Life was the 11th-best-selling album of the year and was certified 6x Platinum in the USA. Their second album, Away From The Sun (2002) continued the band's success; it debuted at No.8 on the Billboard 200 chart went multi-platinum in the United States like its predecessor, and spawned the hits When I'm Gone and Here With You.
Chris, in an interview few years ago, talked about his debut and early years with 3 Doors Down. He said that commercial success came very quickly but it not changed him. He is a responsible person: “I try to keep my head above water, keep my nose clean. I spent some time in the military. I was in the Navy for four years, and stayed in the reserves for another seven. That can only help you. It taught me to get up in the morning and be responsible for more things than just what I'm supposed to be responsible for according to society. It gave me a whole different outlook on life, and how to deal with everyday problems”, he said. He told that before he met Todd Harrell and joined the band he worked costruction.
Chris added that he is a lucky man because does the job he loves and he become “terribly rich” but he doesn't forget the less fortunate, infact he and the 3 Doors Down created The Better Life Foundation in 2003, with a goal in mind to give as many children as possible a better life. Since its inception TBLF has supported numerous charities nationwide including the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and the Habitat for Humanity, as well as providing aid and assistance to the Gulf Coast region of Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina.
