Day of Kurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, (State of Washington, U.S). He waslead singer, guitarist and primary songwriter of the rock band Nirvana.
Cobain's family had a musical background, so Kurt, according to his aunt Mary began singing at the age of two. At age four he started playing piano and writing a song about a trip to a local park. In 1981 Cobain met Novoselic a fellow devotee of punk rock, few years later they formed Nirvana together with Dave Grohl. Their debut album was Bleach released on the indipendent record label Sub Pop in 1989.
The band found breaktrhough success with Smells Like Teen Spirit from its second album Nevermind.
Following the success of Nevermind, Nirvana was labeled "the flagship band" of Generation X and Cobain hailed as "the spokesman of a generation”. Nirvana, with Cobain as a songwriter, has sold over 25 million albums in the U.S., and over 75 million worldwide.
On April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead at age 27, in his home in Seattle, the victim of what was a suicide. The circumstances of his death have become a topic of public fascination and debate.
David Fricke of Rolling Stone ranked him the 12th greatest guitarist of all time, and by MTV as seventh in the "22 Greatest Voices in Music".In 2006, he was placed at number twenty by Hit Parader on their list of the "100 Greatest Metal Singers of All Time. Cobain was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2014. He's considered one of the most iconic rock musicians in the history of alternative music.
Cobain is one of the well known members of the 27 Club, a list of famous musicians who all died at the young age of 27.
In a letter written just before his death Kurt wrote “It's better to burn out than to fade away”.
