Guns N’ Roses’ First TV Interview Since Reuniting
Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose and Duff McKagan sat down for their first interview since reuniting earlier this year. Of all outlets, Brazilian television program Fantástico, Globo landed the exclusive, which was filmed prior to the band’s gig in Orlando in late July and aired last Sunday night (September 4).
Axl and Duff discussed the impetus for GNR’s reunion, with Axl singingly out Coachella founder Paul Tollett as the man responsible for putting the wheels into motion. “He started talking about it .. it seemed real … at that point, I told my people they could go ahead and start talking.” Axl admitted he did not have Slash’s number prior to talks of the reunion, “but eventually in October (of 2015), we got together and had dinner at my house.”
They also addressed the omission of core members Steven Adler and Izzy Stradlin from the band’s reunion lineup. Adler has made a few one-off appearances behind the kit, but Axl suggested that Adler’s recent back surgery prevent him from participating in a more extensive role. As for Izzy, Axl added, “I don’t even know what to say … we make arrangements and then he goes and does other things. With Izzy you never know what to expect.”
Also during the interview, Axl again confirmed that GNR has recorded new music.
