Led Zeppelin Win 'Stairway to Heaven' Lawsuit
The band were accused of copying part of the 1968 song. The case was brought to court by Michael Skidmore, a trustee for the late Randy California (real name Randy Wolfe), who played guitar in Spirit. The trail began on June 14, with Malofiy, the attorney for Skidmore, asking for one-third credit
on 'Stairway To Heaven' due to the similarities between the two.
Yesterday, after one day of deliberations, eight jurors have decided that Led Zeppelin did not lift the song.
"We are grateful for the jury's conscientious service and pleased that it has ruled in our favor, putting to rest questions about the origins of 'Stairway to Heaven' and confirming what we have known for 45 years," members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant said in a statement. " We appreciate our fans' support and look forward to putting this legal matter behind us."
