Ritchie Blackmore Undergoes Finger Surgery
The former Deep Purple and Rainbow star will be unable to play guitar for about a month.
This is the news. Blackmore had an operation to relieve excess uric acid which had built up in the joint of his ring finger. The good news is that Blackmore is fine and this will have no effect on the upcoming shows.
In fact Blackmore will perform Rainbow and Deep Purple material at three shows this summer. The U.K. concert, on Saturday June 25, at the Genting Arena in Birmingham. The two concerts in Germany will take place on Friday June 17 at the Monsters Of Rock Festival at Freilichtbühne in Loreley and on Saturday, June 18 at Festplatz am Viadukt in Bietigheim-Bissingen.
The Deep Purple will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 8 but Blackmore announced he will not attend because his bandmates do not want to perform with him.
Blackmore wrote many of the band's most memorable riffs, including "Smoke on the Water", but Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan last month defended the band's decision to only perform with the group's current lineup.
