'Steven' a film about Morrissey's life
Jack Lowden will reportedly play Morrissey in a film adaptation of the musician's life. The War & Peace actor will play the former Smiths frontman in Steven, a film that focuses on his early life and the forces which led him to pursue a career in music.
"He’s a massive icon," Lowden told The Daily Mail and stressed how important Morrissey's formative years were in informing the artist he would go on to be. "He came from a working-class background, and felt out of place there," Lowden said of Morrissey. "He did a whole bunch of jobs while he figured out who he was. He wanted to get out and escape into that explosion of music that was in Manchester around that time. It was exhilarating, and everyone was trying to find their place."
Steven was written by Mark Gill, who will direct it on location in Manchester from mid-April. Gill was Oscar nominated in 2014 his short film, The Voorman Problem.
A release date for the film has yet to be confirmed.
