This Day In Music
Andrew Hozier- Byrne known as Hozier is a talented singer and songwriter.
Hozier was born on 17 March 1990, in (which just so happened to be St. Patrick's Day) Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. Son of a local blues musician, he literally grew up with the blues being played all around him. He joined his first band when he was 15, gravitating toward R&B, soul, gospel, and, of course, blues. He was member of the Irish choral ensamble Anuna from 2009 to 2012, and toured internationally. He released a solo EP, Take Me to Church, in 2013, and when a video for the powerful title track, which directly addresses gay discrimination in Russia, went viral on YouTube and Reddit, Hozier found himself with an international audience. Take Me To Church becoming his breakthrough single, it reached number one on iTunes.
A Second EP , From Eden, appeared on the spring of 2014 and in September of that year, Columbia released his eponymous debut album. The captivating art that decorates the front of Hozier's Eps and debut album was dreamed up specifically for him by his mother Rose. She is the genius behind the amazing mixed media images that canvas the front of his records, and the front of Hozier is an inventive portrait that gives the singer-songwriter a surreal facelift.
On december 2014 it was announced that Take Me To Church was nominated at the 57 th Annuary Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year in 2015.
Hozier declared about his song that : “Electing a person in the place of an organization, like the church, as something that is worth worshiping and something that is worth loving, something tangible and real...there's a lot to the song, but if I need to stand up and swing from the corner, I'm happy to do that."
His debut album reached the Top Ten of the chart in no less than 11 countries and was quickly certied gold in Canada and Great Britain.
Hozier was nominated for a Grammy and he performed Take Me To Church with Annie Lennox at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
On 12 November 2015 he won the VH1 Artist of the Year based on fan votes.
