Joel Rueben Combs was born on 11 March 1979, in Waldorf ,Maryland, USA.
He is the younger twin brother, by five minutes, of Benjamin Combs. They are members of rock punk band Good Charlotte. Joel is the lead vocalist and Benji is guitarist of the band.
Their father left the family when the brothers were 15 years old, so they would later change their surname to Madden, their mother's maiden name, to distance themselves from their father. At the age of 16 Joel and his brother attended an inspirational Beastie Boys concert and left the venue with the desire to start a band. In 1996 Joel with his brother Benji and his friends Paul Thomas, Aaron Escolopio and Billy Martin formed the Goog Charlotte. They took the name of the band from the children book Good Charlotte by Carol Beach York. In 2000 Maddens brothers realised their fist album Good Charlotte and found themselves hosting MTV's All Things Rock. Their band's popularity swelled as a result and The Young And The Hopless, their second album, officially launched the band into the mainstreem. Bandmembers came and went during the following years but Joel and Benji remained and helming hits like Hold On and Lifestyle Of Rich And Famous
Although Good Charlotte album's sales took a slight dip on 2004's The Chronicles Of Life And Death and 2007's Good Morning Revival Joel continued to make the forefront of the group. Madden Brothers also provided songwriting and production assistant to the Australian band 5 Seconds Of Summer on their first album. They has also helped to write songs with them again for their later album Sounds Good Feels Good.
Joel is now in a pop rock duo with his brother Benji called Madden Brothers, they released Greetings form California in September 2014.
